Who Is David? | Catholic Musician, Speaker & Ministry Leader in Houston
The short version? I’m one of God’s children—no longer quite a kid 😊—doing my best, like many of us, to live life one day at a time and ultimately make my way home to heaven.
I’m a Catholic singer-songwriter, recording artist, and guest speaker based in the Greater Houston area. I also serve in ministry as a Director of Religious Education (DRE) at a vibrant Catholic parish, where I’m passionate about helping others grow in their faith and relationship with God.
Beyond ministry and music, I’m a foodie, coffee enthusiast, and a bit of a goofy guy. Life is a blessing, and I’m grateful to share it with my beautiful wife, Sally, our two amazing daughters, and our four very cute cats.

David's Story - Longer verSion
I was born David Joseph Rofrano on December 21st, the 4th of six children, in Connecticut and was brought home from the hospital and placed under the Christmas tree. Rumor has it that I looked like an angel but I don't recall. I was raised a cradle Catholic, attended Catholic schools and learned the ABC's of my faith. If I had angel wings under that Christmas tree, they began to wilt in my mid-high school years, partially due to the painful separation of my mom and dad and partially due to the silly wanderings that many of us do before we find our way home. After three years of a continual drift away from God, I experienced what I call a major re-conversion during a Catholic weekend retreat in Nyack, NY.

( God's hand [top] - My hand [bottom] )
I believe that God decided that enough was enough and helped to reel me back in by arranging for me attend this retreat weekend. I did not want to go, nor did I want anything to do with God at that time, but I was “voluntold”. Since I was also told that the food was pretty good and that I did not have to do anything except sit there, I went. I was like a moss covered rock for almost two days, with no reaction to anything, and then late Saturday night it hit me. The Spirit was a movin' as the old saying goes. My heart melted like a gooey marshmallow over a blazing campfire. But it was more like this: my heart was a stone that turned to a marshmallow that was put over a blazing campfire. Because of this experience, the direction of my life changed forever. Now prayer meant something… and so did church, community and faith. God was not an uncaring distant deity, but very real and directly involved in my life; God actually cared: about me, about other people, about the Church and about the world.

(me after getting to know Jesus and being freed)
Don't get me wrong here; life still had its many ups and downs and twists and turns (you will hear some of that in the music), but the essence of my life changed. I was a child of God walking towards healing, a new purpose and towards Him. I was a messy child at times, but a child of God nonetheless. Irrelevant side note: My beautiful wife Sally claims that I am messy more often than not but that is a story for another day.

(with my beautiful wife Sally)
This new purpose for my life (Catholics call it “vocation”) brought me to the great state of Texas to serve in full time Catholic ministry as a director of Music Ministries in Katy, TX.
It was at that time when I first starting composing and later recording music. Well, true confession here, the first two songs I ever composed was at age fourteen, and the titles were Yeah, Yeah, Yeah and You Ain't Nothin' but Witches Brew. The first song was about a girl I liked and the second song, as you might have guessed, was about a breakup with a girl I had been “going out with” for all of 45 minutes (funny story - I'll share that another time).
Fast forward to my post conversion life and thankfully my music has evolved to include songs about prayer, the saints, worship, instrumental piano music and also the occasional song about other real life experiences.
Three years after the passing of my first wife, Nancy and after crying more tears that one can imagine I met and married my beautiful wife Sally. God gave me a 2nd life and along with it two daughters and the aforenmentioned cats (That is another interesting story - on how we ended up with 4 cats, since I was a dog guy and never liked cats - but now it is hard not to like them).

When not feeding the cats, making music, or raising a teen (pray for me lol), I am serving as Director of Religious Education at a vibrant church in the Archdiocese of Galveston Houston. When not doing any of the above, I am perfecting my chicken cacciatore recipe, enjoying coffee, spending time with my wife and family, or sleeping (Honestly I rarely get to do the last item listed).
This was a long and winding essay, only to end up here saying that: one of my purposes in life (remember that vocation word) is to write, record and share music for specific people.
Maybe one of them people is you. And what about you? What does God have in store for you? God wants good things for you!
I pray that this music helps you find that answer and that it will bless you now and always.
I invite you to subscribe, follow, join the elist and enjoy the music!
PS. There is no AI here. Just real music and real words from a real person :)
